1. Message from the President
The Code of Conduct (the Code) is a statement that guides our decision making and how we are expected to behave.
This Code expands on our values as we strive to deliver results, value and excellence in all our activities. We take pride in our strong commitment to a fair, supportive and responsible environment. We endeavour to provide an honest, transparent and accountable club and underpinning our efforts is our professionalism and adherence to high standards of ethical conduct.
This Code sets out the minimum behavioural standards to which we are all bound. Our club faces ongoing challenges and complexities as society continues to change.
It is important that we maintain our values and principles at the highest level.
This Code clearly outlines the ethical principles, obligations and standards that apply to you as a member of the Military Rifle Club. The Code promotes and encompasses the values expect of everyone -Respecting Rights and Diversity; Being Fair and Reasonable.
As a member of the Military Rifle Club you must comply with the terms of this Code and relevant supporting legislation and rules.
In order to have a clear understanding of the standards contained in this Code, please take the time to read it and use it as a guide your behaviour and to help in your decision-making.

2. Introduction
This Code of Conduct:
- Promotes professionalism and excellence;
- Supports club members to understand the values of our association;
- Informs club members of the standards to which they are entitled,
- Clarifies our expected standards of behaviour;
- Provides guidance on our responsibilities;
- Clearly defines our obligations
The Standards endorsed in this Code are minimum standards of behaviour that inform us all on how to exercise judgement and accept personal responsibility as a member of the Military
Rifle Club. In addition to this Code, we are all responsible for ensuring we are familiar with and comply with the SSAA Rules of Association and By Laws.
All new members have a probationary period of 12 months (includes general and committee members) at the discretion of the MRC Committee. The Committee will decide fate of conduct breaches.
Non-compliance may result in disciplinary action and a consequence could be termination as a member of the Club.
3. Code of Conduct Standards
The Code of Conduct applies when competing, practicing, training or taking part is club sanctioned activities and aims to set out the minimum standards for members of the Military
Rifle Club. Visitors are also subject to the Code.
- 3.1 Act within the rules and spirit of the club and shooting disciplines.
- 3.2 Promote fair play over winning at any cost.
- 3.3 Encourage and support opportunities for people to learn appropriate behaviours and skills.
- 3.4 Treat each other as individuals.
- 3.5 Show respect and courtesy to all involved with the sport.
- 3.6 Respect the rights and worth of every person, regardless of their age, race, gender, ability, cultural background, sexuality or religion.
- 3.7 Respect and abide by the decisions of the Range Officers and Club Trainers.
- 3.8 Respect and abide by the decisions of the Committee, and in the event of a disagreement or dispute, raise the matter through the appropriate club instrument.
- 3.9 Wherever practical, avoid unaccompanied one-on-on activity (when in a supervisory capacity or where a power imbalance exists) with people under the age of 18.
- 3.10 Display appropriate and responsible behaviour in all interactions.
- 3.11 Display responsible behaviour in relation to alcohol and other drugs.
- 3.12 Act with integrity and objectivity, and accept responsibility for your decisions and actions.
- 3.13 Ensure your decisions and actions contribute to a safe environment.
- 3.14 Ensure your decisions and actions contribute to a harassment-free environment.
- 3.15 Do not tolerate abusive, bullying or threatening behaviour.
4. Members
- 4.1 Give your best
- 4.2 Participate for your own enjoyment and benefit
- 4.3 Compete by the rules and show respect for other members, range officers and committee members
5. Aggressive Behaviour
- 5.1 Aggressive behaviour actual or implied has NO PLACE in the shooting sports and particularly at Military Rifle Club
- 5.2 If you demonstrate aggressive behaviour you will face disciplinary action immediately with a very high probability of being expelled from the club.
6. Disciplinary Action
- 6.1 Failure to follow the Military Rifle Club Code of Conduct may result in disciplinary action by the Club.
- 6.2 If you are brought up on Disciplinary action, you will be brought before the Committee to explain yourself.
- 6.3 Disciplinary Action can result in:
- 6.3.1 Suspension
- 6.3.2 Expulsion
- 6.3.3 And/or the loss of your license if the Committee believes you are no longer a ‘Fit and Proper Person’ in accordance with the Firearm Act 1973.
7. Review
- 7.1 The Military Rifle Club will continue to review and update this Code as necessary to ensure that it continues to address current and emerging issues relevant
